In this blog we will learn about markdown useful features and how to use markdown syntax, i hope you will enjoy this tutorials.
First we will start with markdown getting started
What is Markdown?
Markdown is a lightweight markup language with plain text formatting syntax so that it can be easily converted to HTML and other formats by using conversion tools. Simply markdown text is easy to maintain and convert different formats with shortest time and effort.
Generally, Markdown is used to create read me files, I hope many of them already familiar with markdown readme content files present in the GitHub pages.
Using Markdown, you can control the format of the document like format the text to bold, italic, adding images and creating lists, etc.
Markdown files are ended with extension .md or .markdown
Markdown was created by John Gruber, as a simple way for non-programming types to write in an easy-to-read format that could be easily converted into HTML format.
John Gruber, says as MD File as
“Markdown is a text-to-HTML conversion tool for web writers. Markdown allows you to write using an easy-to-read, easy-to-write plain text format, then convert it to structurally valid XHTML (or HTML)”
How Markdown Works?.
Markdown uses a very simple formatting syntax to achieve the same thing that HTML or Rich Text Formatting does. The difference is that it is much simpler than HTML and you don’t have to worry about opening and closing tags or other complex syntax. It also doesn’t have all of the menus associated with most text editing programs. In order to format the text content Markdown uses punctuation and characters which was already familiar for us.
For example if you create a header have to use hashtags, “# HEADLINE” is a large header. “## HEADLINE” would be a little smaller, “### HEADLINE” would be smaller then previous one.
Markdown looks little complicated initially but once you familiar with this syntax, you will find it is best way to organize and manage the text content best ever compare to any other document format.
Why should use markdown?
I hope we are too familiar and like to write the plain text comparing to any format and also will like to complete document with minimal changes. But while using MicroSoft Word we are wasting time for too much formatting and maintaining the document is harder while using MS Word.
For example if you are sending document friend he need to do some changes in that document, once we done that changes again we need to send whole document to him, But while using markdown files we can send exact files which needs to do modification.
So, from a productivity concern, Markdown is very useful compare to any other format tools and also once you learn how to use it you can quickly and instantly format text without ever touching a mouse.
Markdown is all about text and it is works with short and long documents. But it allows to create other kind of tasks like email creation, to-do list, creating websites, etc. i will suggest markdown mainly for the document which need modification frequently.
